THE ARTIST
Luc Hudson
By day (and sometimes also by night) I am a Toy Designer.
In 2007 I set up Triclops Studio Ltd. with my business partner, Rob Ames.
We provide Concept Design services to the toy and entertainment industries and our most recent success is 'Terror Fried' a gross-out collectibles line.
In my downtime I like to illustrate, build guitars, write songs, play the drums and generally make cool stuff.
Queen are my favourite band so when the opportunity to get involved with The King of Rhye project came along, merging all of my interests and, as it would turn out, encouraging me to explore a few new ones, I jumped at the chance.

The first illustration I created for The King of Rhye.

The King of Rhye by Craig Mulhall
Imagine if Lord of the Rings starred Freddie Mercury and the rest of Queen. But then stop it, because The King of Rhye is not that. It is a lot more.

THE TIMELINE...
2020
THE KING OF RHYE IS CONCEPTUALISED BY CRAIG MULHALL
Craig's mission statement for a fantasy novel based on Freddie Mercury's fictional land of Rhye is first shared with the world via the Official International Queen Fan Club page on Facebook. I jump on board, offering my services as an illustrator, little did I realise how that role would expand!
2022
THE KING OF RHYE NOVEL IS PUBLISHED
Craig's debut novel 'The King of Rhye' is published. I try to contribute a colour digital illustration for each chapter but get a little distracted along the way, helping to write the soundtrack album with Fat Bottomed Boys and providing cover and sleeve art, and creating a series of posters for 'We Lille Rock You' a Queen fan convention in France where The King of Rhye creative team finally get to meet up in real life.
2023
MORE ARTWORK!
The colour chapter illustrations continue - interrupted along the way by the creation of a 6 page comic plus an animated video created in After Effects for 'Sweet Dirge,' one of the songs I wrote on the TKOR soundtrack. A French language translation of TKOR 'Le Roi de Rhye' is published with alternative cover art and the audiobook is released.
2024
THE KING OF RHYE BOOK 2 'METROPOLIS' IS PUBLISHED
Craig suggests Art Deco and Deco Punk as strong references for the art style to align with the New Rhye depicted in 'Metropolis' the sequel. The branding begins with a new logo and book cover. Fat Bottomed Boys reveal a masterly display of musical prowess in the soundtrack album, each track features a different illustration on the cover, which lend themselves to a range of teeshirt designs. Metropolis the audiobook is released.
2025
5 YEARS OF CONTENT
2025 saw lots of developments in Rhye. The French translation of Metropolis got underway and a Graphic Novel was planned and sketched out as Craig stormed ahead with writing book 3 of the saga.
2026
A BUMPER YEAR!
2026 has seen the launch of Craig’s epic ‘Singalongs and Lullabies’ completing the trilogy of novels but that’s not the end by any means!
In April, We Lille Rock You 2 affords Luc and The Fat Bottomed Boys the chance to meet up once again with Craig joining via the airwaves from Australia.
Summer bonuses are on the cards with the graphic novel taking shape, definitely ‘Coming soon’ plus there are strong rumours that the entire crew might get together for a very special celebration later in the year.
